In this close-up self-portrait, I distort my own image with a deliberately silly expression. A twisted lips, raised brows, an unapologetically playful defiance of the “beautiful” face. The painting invites you into an intimate moment where ego dissolves and the absurd becomes sacred.
This work is about unmasking. Not the removal of makeup or disguise, but the rejection of the polished self we’re conditioned to curate. Each exaggerated feature in this image becomes a protest. This painting goes against perfectionism, against conformity, and even against seriousness. It’s a celebration of our inner clown, our chaotic soul, the part of us that laughs in the mirror just to feel real.
